The role of media in crisis thinking : the case study of Marrakech earthquake.
Help us we are dying in silence
This is an example of crisis thinking in natural disasters. This quote was taken from a French newspaper called “libération”, but the actual words of the woman featured on the front page of the newspaper after the disaster in Morocco have been manipulated. the twitter Maroc Defender account, which bills itself as an “independent account dedicated to Morocco”, claims that “the woman, a victim of the earthquake, is actually shouting ‘Vive le roi, vive le roi’ (long live the king), not ‘Aidez-nous, nous mourons en silence'”(help us we are dying in silence).
Here’s a photo of the line at Casa Blanca where people are waiting to donate blood. this picture is a demonstration of moroccans not being helpless but instead resilient in taking charge and helping one another.
This podcast (Alba Koudoro, Ayan Farah) will be discussing the role of the media in morocco’s hesitation to accept foreign aid, decolonization and white savior complex.Hope the discussion will enlighten the listeners.
